Aussie mum reveals BIZARRE cold remedy for kids - but would you try it?

She claims this works brilliantly.

An Aussie mum has revealed the bizarre cold and flu remedy she uses on her kids - but it would take a brave mother to try it.

Obviously if you or your child are seriously ill, the best thing to do is to make an appointment with your doctor to get some proper medical advice. But this mum claims to have found a remedy that soothes a snotty nose and tickling cough.

But we'll let you decide if it's something you want to try or not...

When mum-of-two Carol Heaton's eight-month-old son fell sick with a cold, she tried everything to make him feel better but nothing worked.

Carol was told by a family member about an old-school treatment using only natural ingredients: onion and sugar.

She decided to give it a go, and was overjoyed when she actually saw results.

The remedy is simple but gross:

You cut a brown onion into large slices, sprinkle sugar on top, then let it sit in a small bowl for a few hours.

Eventually you’ll see juice from the onion collecting at the bottom of the plate. Carol then gave her son a spoonful of that juice to her son every hour, according to Kidspot.

 And it worked!

Hours after her son had the liquid, he was bringing up phlegm, which reduced the congestion in his chest.

Soon the coughing was reduced too. ‘To say I was amazed would be an understatement,’ Carol told the website. ‘Wow, something that actually works."

This isn’t a new hack by any means – Carol originally shared it on her Facebook page two years ago, and people have been recommending it as a remedy for decades.

While there's no medical evidence to suggest why this remedy would work, there are suggestions it's because the onion thins out the phlegm and it contains Vitamin C, but we're not sure getting a child to drink onion and sugar would be easy or very pleasant!

What do you think?
