Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water… The super-popular ‘Baby Shark’ song is being made into a television show by children’s network Nickelodeon.

“With music, characters, story and dance all combined together, 'Baby Shark' took the world by storm, amassing 2.9 billion YouTube views and becoming the ninth most-watched video in the platform’s history,” Nickelodeon stated in a press release obtained by the Hollywood Reporter.

The children's song recorded a 20-week streak on the Billboard Hot 100 list and spawned #BabySharkChallenge on social media, which generated more than 700,000 cover videos worldwide.

Baby Shark is “a multiplatform phenomenon, and appetite for more content and products is strong around the world,” said Pam Kaufman, president, Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products.

“Our outstanding creative teams are moving fast to get more 'Baby Shark' product across multiple categories to retailers, and our content team is excited to develop a terrific original animated series that will bring this property to new heights and even more fans.”

Earlier this year, there were rumours that Netflix were going to create a Baby Shark TV show, but it seems that they were just rumours - or perhaps Nickelodeon won out in a bidding war.

There is no word yet on a launch date for the Baby Shark TV show, but no doubt toddlers around the world will be anticipating the show’s release with great excitement. Their parents, not so much!

Sing it now, baby shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo.
