Constance Hall: 'Being a step-mum is really hard'

The blogger reveals how she makes her blended family work

Perth-based blogger and author, Constance Hall, has opened up about the realities of being a step-parent, and what makes her blended family work.

"Marrying somebody with children is marrying them all as a team," she shared in a post on her Facebook page.

"It’s not committing to parent their children. It’s committing to working towards each persons individual needs as a team a team that we call family," she added.

And like all hard work the rewards are exceptional. I am a lucky women. No, I'm not their mother. That's a title that belongs to a woman who may not be alive anymore but certainly deserves to take the credit along with their dad for these incredible boys. But one day they will marry, or have a baby, or land that job or win some world championship skate Comp and just like a mother I will be there, sobbing my eyes out with pride. Constance has five children, plus two step-children with her second husband, Denim Cooke. She admits that having a blended family is not easy.

"It’s really hard. But what makes it hard, is expecting it to be easy," she reveals.

She adds that while Denim's sons are not her biological children, she loves them and will be there for all the big milestones in their lives. Their Mum sadly passed away some years ago.

"One day they will marry, or have a baby, or land that job or win some world championship skate Comp and just like a mother I will be there, sobbing my eyes out with pride," she writes.

"Marrying someone with kids is the best thing I ever did and I highly recommend it.

"I love these two boys with my whole heart and all I except from them in return is to never forget that."
