This year was a big year for baby names; celebrities leading the way with some of the biggest trends.
From Jamie Oliver’s son, River Rocket, to the latest Kardashian Baby being named Dream, here’s a list of baby name trends that emerged in 2016.
Unisex names
Boys’ names for girls (and vice versa) aren’t new but with celebrities like Blake Lively naming her daughter James, the trend is gaining momentum.
Star Wars
Perhaps with the release of the latest Star Wars movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there's been an increase in babies being named Lucas, the series creator’s last name, Kylo, played by Adam Driver, and Liam, a character in in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.
Elegant girls names
A trend described as ‘romantic’, names like Olivia, Sophia, Grace and Gabriella are becoming more popular. Olivia also topped Nameberry’s list of most popular baby names in 2016.
Nouns as names
The Kardashian’s have this trend down to a tea, with Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna naming their daughter Dream. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West named their two children North and Saint. They aren’t the only ones: Beyonce and Jay-Z named their daughter Blue Ivy and we saw Lara Bingle calling her son Rocket.
Vintage names
Names usually associated with older people have made a comeback. Milo and Henry made it to the top ten in Nameberry’s list of most popular baby names in 2016. Arthur, Jack and Ethan also came in quite high.
