This pregnant mum's baby name has been SLAMMED by her family as it's a 'dog's name' - but is it that bad?

She's devastated she told them - should she change the name?

April 16 2019

We all know choosing a baby name for your child is stressful, particularly when your friends and family hate the name!

One mum is still reeling after she revealed her un-born baby's name and everyone DISMISSED it as a dog's name!

In fact, she received so much backlash she was driven to an online forum for support.

Her post started, “Nobody likes the baby name we’ve chosen.”

The name in question? Huxley.

The mum explained on Netmums that while she and her husband had fallen in love with the baby name NO-ONE else had!

“Whenever I tell anyone they pull a face and say it's a dog's name. I'm trying to stick to what my partner and I like but it's so disheartening,” she wrote.

Reaching out for some more opinions on baby names, the mum put it to the forum, “Can you just ignore negative opinions or should I be listening to them?”

Not everyone who commented on the post was a fan of Huxley either.

"It's the perfect name for a dog. Not a baby. In fact I might steal it for my puppy -lol," said one.

“Huxley is the name of the villain from Elmo in Grouchland, when I hear the name, all I can think is crazy eyebrows lol. Hopefully your child will like it,” one less than sympathetic poster shared.

But thankfully, the rest of the community of online mothers said she should stick to her guns.

“For what it’s worth I love the name Huxley. In fact, I wish I had thought of it,” wrote one mum.

"Our son is named Zeus," said another. "Every body hated it at first, people was saying things like your naming him after a god, my dog/horse is called Zeus etc etc. I ignored them, as we loved the name and as soon as everybody met him, they all said his name suited him!"

Many other mums told her not to talk about her chosen name before the birth.

“My advice is never ever reveal baby names before the baby is born and don't get into a baby name discussion, if they do mention names that aren't on your list,” shared a one of the commenters.

In response, the mum admitted she had decided to stick with the name they loved

“We spoke about it again last night and my partner is adamant it doesn't matter what other people think. We're going to keep Huxley as our name, it'll probably be a girl now anyway,” she wrote.
