Picking a name for a baby can be extremely difficult. There’s so much to consider: Will the name match their face? Or, what if the name you choose comes with an unfortunate nickname that you and your partner overlooked?
Mummy blogger Sophie Cachia, AKA the Young Mummy, took to Facebook over the weekend and announced to her followers that after eight days, they’ve decided to change their newborn's name.
Sharing a picture of her son Bobby holding Betty, the mum used the toddler to reintroduce his sister’s new name: Florence.
“So y’all want to hear a funny story? My mum & dad f***ed up. Like, bayyyyyyd,” Bobby said.
“Mum was all drugged up and hormonal and started to doubt my sissy's name as soon as she was born. A few days later, she totally snapped out of it and fell in love with her name all over again. That was until Daddy came along and dropped the bomb on us both that he started to doubt the choice too,” the post continued.
According to Bobby, the newborn’s cheeks didn’t quite match the name. So, after a few meltdowns, they changed it.
“So I've been given the gig today to formally RE-introduce my little sister. Mum & Dad say her name is apparently Florence, but me being the boss two-year-old I am, have chosen to nickname her Flossy which is really sticking (for me anyway).”
The Facebook post has been liked over 55,000 times with many reassuring the mum that changing a baby's name is common.
“Happens all the time! Florence is a beautiful name, and you've still got Betty in the mix. You poor thing! Hope you didn't fret too much over this, not the easiest decision to make,” one mum wrote.
Another added: “Love the fact that you had the guts to change it! I think I'd chicken out lol. Flossy is such a sweet name, good work!”
