Do you know the REAL reason why kids' toothbrushes have those coloured bristles? Mind blown!

Who knew?!

Prepare to have your mind well and truly blown!

Do you know the reason why kids have those multi-coloured bristles on their toothbrushes?

It turns out, they are ‘toothpaste indicators’. That means those are the parts of the toothbrush where you are should squeeze your toothpaste!

They give you an indication of how much toothpaste you're supposed to squirt onto the toothbrush and where!

Holly Benn shared the fact on her Facebook page, Little Learners Southport, in a post which has been shared nearly 5,000 times!

She wrote: ‘Tell me I am NOT the only one who didn’t know that the coloured bristles on children’s toothbrushes are “toothpaste indicators” that tell you where to put it and how much toothpaste to use!?’

But with hundreds of parents commenting and tagging each other into her post, it looks like others were just as amazed (like us!) - and admitted they have been using way too much toothpaste!

"It's like one of those questions that when you know the answer, it seems simple," said one commenter. "But when you don't know, you just think it's a pretty pattern".

"I thought it was just eye-catching," said one mum. "Now I feel like such a goose!"

But apparently the big toothpaste discovery is NOT such a surprise if you um... look at the isntructions! Most kids' toothbrushes have instructions on the packaging which tell you what to do!

"The information on the packaging of the brushes states: ‘Toothpaste indicator shows how much toothpaste to use," said one mum. "This isn't such a big secret after all!"
