As major fans of the 1991 Disney animated original, it's safe to assume we're waiting with anticipation for the release of Beauty And The Beast on March 23rd.
While we can't wait to see how the house will be brought to life, or how Emma Watson nails her ballads, there's one thing we're very excited to find out about: Belle's mum. The new film explores how Belle and her father, Maurice, came to this small provincial town without her mother.

Early in the film, Belle asks her father what happened to her mother and he doesn't want to speak about her death and simply says they moved to be "safer." Later in the film, The Beast shows Belle an enchanted book that he was given by The Enchantress, which allows him to travel to anywhere in the world.
Belle asks him to take her to Paris, where they arrive in the home she once lived in. While there, The Beast finds a mask with a long beak and figures out that Belle’s mum must have died from the bubonic plague. He realises this because this type of mask was worn by doctors who treated those infected with the Black Death back in the 17th century.
So there you go, incredibly sad right? We can't wait to see how it pans out in the film!
