A US mother loading groceries into her car has revealed the shocking moment a stranger threw her one-year-old out of her shopping trolley and onto the ground, reports 7News.com.au

The 17-year-old boy, who was later arrested, told police he had earlier smoked marijuana that must have been laced with another drug, possibly acid.

Watch the horrific moment here:

The attack, captured on CCTV, occurred in Edmond, a city in the state of Oklahoma.

The toddler, Jensen Counts, luckily escaped serious injury.

His mother, Dusty, told local ABC affiliate KOCO "he was screaming" but was saved because he was still in his car seat.

"Naturally I got him out of the car seat as fast as I could to make sure if he had bumps or bruises or was bleeding," she said.

The teenager later apologised and was taken to hospital to be checked over by doctors.

He has now been charged with aggravated assault and battery, a misdemeanor count of assault on a police officer. The teen also faces counts of indecent exposure, public intoxication and malicious injury or destruction of property.

A shaken eyewitness called 911 afterwards to report what she had seen, describing how terrifying it was.

The woman said: ‘I’m at Crest (the shopping centre), a man just threw a lady’s baby out of the cart. ‘You could hear the baby screaming.’

I’ve never in my life seen anything like that. It freaked me out.’
