Stranger shames bottle-feeding mum for 'damaging' her baby's brain

She said what?

November 22 2018

An elderly lady outrageously abused a mum for bottle-feeding her baby boy in public.

Now, the outraged mum has taken to the internet to vent her anger and pain at the encounter.

Taking to Mumsnet, the mother outlined how she had been sitting feeding her baby outside her local supermarket when the older lady sat down next to her.

She explained to the forum, "We were having polite chit chat, how old your baby is ... yada yada ..." the mom wrote. "She just blurted out something along the lines of, 'If you bottle feed him, it'll damage his brain and he won't achieve anything in his life.' I didn't know what to say to this lady. I just nodded in stunned silence."

Fellow mums on the site agreed with the mum for feeling so bad, but others were forced to admit that maybe it was the bottle-feeding mum's own guilt that was forcing her to feel bad.

'You can't blame yourself but maybe you DO feel bad that you aren't breast-feeding. Otherwise why would you let the words of a crazy old lady upset you so much. And why didn't you say anything back to her?' said one.

Another commented, 'You should have stood up for yourself. The more people think that they have the right to say this stuff, the more they will

And the mum, known on the site as Crushedstrawberries, admitted that they are all possibly correct.

"I feel like I'm trying to do my best like all mums are but whatever I do, I'm doing something horrendously wrong in someone's eyes," Crushedstrawberries explained. "I'm just going to have to grow a thicker skin."

Have you ever been mum-shamed?
