… and the best months of the year too!

If you’re looking to start or add to your family, new research says the best time to try and conceive is first thing in the morning – before 7.30am to be exact.

Researchers from University Hospital Zurich say that sperm have their own 24-hour internal clock and are best equipped to travel to the egg early in the morning.

The scientists say that time of day shows the highest levels in sperm concentration, total sperm count and normal morphology.

They also say that sperm is at its healthiest during springtime, so September, October and November are the best months to try for a baby in the Southern Hemisphere, or March, April and May for those living in the Northern Hemisphere.

The researchers analysed sperm samples from more than 7000 men who were aged 25-40 and undergoing fertility treatment.

‘Collection of semen in the early morning, where semen quality was highest, can be used to improve natural fertility as well as fertility resulting from assisted reproduction,’ researchers concluded.
