Mum’s bizarre potty training method goes viral!

But does it actually work?

A mum’s creative approach to toilet training has gone viral after she posted about it on social media.

Shona McLoughlin and her partner Edward covered their entire living room floor with large absorbent pads and placed their daughter Erin’s potty right in the centre.

“Taking on potty training for the first time was very daunting,” the 31-year-old mum said.

“I had no idea what I was doing or what to expect. I just had visions of little accidents absolutely everywhere.

“Honestly, we just thought it was a normal thing to do, covering the floor for the first few days to protect it.

“We thought it would be easier laying down pads to save me scrubbing the floor all the time.”

Shona suffers from fibromyalgia which makes bending down painful, and the wood flooring in her living room is new, so she didn’t want to take any risks.

After posting the photos in a parenting group she was encouraged to share her potty training methods publicly, where it has since gone viral.

“So many people have thanked me for the 'ingenious' idea and for the laughs, showing the honest side of parenting,” Shona said.

“And so many parents have come forwards wishing they had thought of that idea as it would have saved throwing out the carpet.

"The pads are great laid on the top of the car seat too.”

But has this method actually worked for the family? Well, according to Shona, it’s been a big success.

“We didn't know how long it would take for her to take to the potty but she has been fantastic. She's almost got it after just a week,” the proud mum said.

Would you try this potty training method?
