Palace confirms: The surprise no show at this year's royal Christmas

Well, this is a shock

December 20 2018

Meghan Markle’s mother Doria Ragland will NOT be celebrating Christmas with the British royal family this year.

Despite previous reports insisting that the 62-year-old was flying into the UK to spend time at the Queen's Christmas Day celebration at her Sandringham home, with Meghan and new son-in-law Prince Harry, a palace spokesman is saying that this will not happen.

“This is not something that we’re commenting on; however, we have previously guided that reports suggesting Ms Ragland is spending Christmas in Norfolk are made up,” said the palace spokesman.

It is very unusual for non-members of the royal family to join Queen Elizabeth for Christmas.

Even when Kate was engaged to William in 2010, she spent her last Christmas as a single woman with her own family. However, last year Meghan was invited to be with the Royal Family last year just months before she married Prince Harry.

Even Kate's family, the Middletons have never joined the royals for Christmas. In 2016, Kate and William chose to celebrate Christmas in 2016 with their children Prince George and Prince Charlotte in church with Kate’s family at her childhood home.

Meghan probably would love to see her mum this Christmas after rumours of feuds and fights with Princess Kate and Prince William gaining traction. In recent days her dad has come forward in the media begging for her to get in touch.

“My mum's a yoga instructor, but she does social work as well, and she works specifically with the geriatric community,” the former Suits star told Glamour magazine.

“For me, to watch this level of lifelong sensitivity to nurturing and caregiving, but at the same time, my mum has always been a free spirit.

“She’s got dreadlocks and a nose ring. She just ran the LA Marathon. We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I’ll still find so much solace in her support. That duality coexists the way it would in a best friend,” she added

There are reports that Doria will move over to the UK to be with her daughter when she gives birth in March. Several of the UK media have suggested she will move into Frogmore House in Windsor, where the couple will live.
