Madeleine West: "I want to change the world"

The mum of six shares her exciting plans for the future

November 02 2018

Forget about her long mane of blonde hair, perfectly straight teeth and killer body – to actress Madeleine West, her appearance is the least sexy thing about her.

The Playing for Keeps star isn’t interested in discussing fitness tips and tricks. Nope, the 38-year-old mother of six is too busy trying to change the world.

“Something people don’t know about me is that I want to change the world,” she tells WHO. “Even if it’s just one grain of sand at a time, one children’s story at a time, or one inspirational quote at a time, I want to change the world.”

You know you have #powerdressing down pat when pants become optional. Meanwhile, overleaf, two of the most extraordinary women I have had the #honour to work alongside @olympiavalance and @isabellagiov ...#power made manifest Grab a copy of @tvweekmag where we dish the dirt on our new show 'Playing for Keeps' (Wednesday 19, 8:30pm on Ten) all the diva antics (didn't happen) outlandish demands on set (none) and cat fights between the cast (I once used the last peppermint tea-bag....Olympia and I almost had words...then I made her an English breakfast. Meooowww!) Love these ladies, love this show, tune in and feel the love...... @playingforkeepsau #wags #chicksincharge

In addition to being a busy working mum – who has released five books, including parenting tome Six Under Eight – West wants to leave a lasting legacy.

“[I want to motivate] one person who is inspired to live a better life,” she explains, “to look at themselves in the mirror and go, ‘Yeah I’m down with me, I’m not perfect. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.’That’s a revolution right there.”

But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have time for her children, Phoenix, 12, Hendrix, 10, Xascha, 8, Xanthe, 6, and 4-year-old twins Xalia and Margaux.

“I’m a very hands-on mum,” she says. “But I’ve reached a point where my kids are a lot more independent and that allows me a new degree of autonomy, and allows me to pursue my career much more full-throttle. It’s crazy and chaotic, and a nightmare, and the house looks like a pigsty more often than it doesn’t.”
