March 31 2019

The Australian Federal Government will give a $125 handout to just under four million Australians it's been revealed.

The special one-off payment will be included in Tuesday's budget to help Aussies who are feeling the pinch caused by soaring power prices.

The $125 payment will be given to around 3.9million people who are either aged pensioners, single parents, veterans, carers and people who receive the disability support pension.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the estimated $285 million pay cheque will help eligible single people take home $75 and couples score $125 before July.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said the policy would particularly help people on the age pension.

"This is money that is going to go into people's pockets to help meet the cost of their next power bill," he told Nine's Today Show on Sunday.

Mr Frydenberg denied the payments were a “cash splash”.

“This is responsible targeted spending into key areas that lifts the productive capacity of the country,” he said.

“We are all about creating jobs and our record shows we have delivered on our commitment to create more than a million new jobs ahead of schedule.”

Who will benefit from the budget bonus?

It's been reported that around 3.9 million people from across the country will receive the $125 payout.

They include:

  • 2.4million pensioners

  • 241,992 single parents

  • 225,209 veterans

  • Extra 41,000 welfare recipients in Canberra
