Harry Potter fans devastated

Tickets for new show sell out within hours

July 31 2018

Disappointed Harry Potter fans are furious after the first batch of tickets for a new show sold out in just a few hours.

On Monday morning Ticketmaster was overwhelmed by the demand for the lavish production of Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, which is showing at Melbourne’s Princes Theatre in January 2019.

Fans trying to buy the tickets found themselves in online queues of up to 40,000 customers, despite logging on to the site before the tickets even went on sale.

Twitter went into meltdown with fans venting and expressing their disappointment.

‘How is 24k people in front of me in the queue a priority booking?’ Tweeted one user.

‘Seeing everyone with #CursedChild tickets just breaks my heart,’ said another user. ‘I even had tickets for the second week at one point. I had a few fourth row tickets, seventh row and more - all failed. Multiple website failures for over an hour until my code was locked out.’

The play’s media agency released a statement the same afternoon to advise that the priority tickets had sold out.

The next batch of tickets will be released at 12pm on Wednesday August 1.

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child debuted on the West End two years ago and has been a smash hit there and on Broadway.

Starting where the last book left off, the main star of the show is Harry Potter’s son, Albus Severus Potter, who is set to join Hogwarts.
