Prince Harry has emotionally spoken about how the birth of his new baby son, Archie, has "given him a new focus and goal" but how his son's birth has made him grieve again for the loss of his mother, Princess Diana.

Harry took one day out of his paternity leave to fly to The Netherlands to officially announce the year countdown to his passion project The Invictus Games - a sporting contest for former members of the armed services who have been injured.

Leaving Meghan and little Archie Harrison at home in Windsor, Harry met with sportsmen and women and was given a tiny onesie for Archie with the Invictus Games logo.

During a bike ride around a park, Harry, 34, opened up to Dennis van der Stroon, 31, a former soldier who hopes to compete for The Netherlands Invictus team.

Dennis revealed his chat with Harry was “amazing and emotional,” as the pair looked around the site for next year’s Invictus Games.

He said Harry opened up about his new son and spoke about how becoming a father deeply and poignantly reminded him of his late mother, Princess Diana.

Dennis' own mother died in 2014 and he spoke with Harry about their shared feelings of loss.

“I told Harry about my mother and we talked about our shared experience of missing a mom,” Dennis shared. “He said missing a mother is like missing some kind of security, how you need that as a son and it falls away when you lose your mother. He said he meets a lot of people in his work who have lost a mother, father, sister, brother or relatives and when he hears their story, as he heard my story, he said he doesn’t feel so alone.”

“Harry talked about how having a small child was his new focus and new goal and I told him how a couple of months ago, I was struggling with my mental health but my wife’s pregnancy has given me a goal.”

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born on May 6, 2019 and two days later Meghan and Harry introduced their son to the world's media at a special photo call to mark the occasion.

During the photo call Harry wore a bracelet that he has worn since a trip to Africa with his father, Prince Charles and brother Prince William, just weeks after Diana died. It is a constant reminder of a very special time they shared in a bid to recover from their grief after Diana was tragically killed.
