The wait is finally over! The first picture of Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins has been released – and it’s magical!
Filming for Mary Poppins Returns, the sequel to the beloved 1964 movie musical, is currently underway and Disney has had a rummage in their very own magic carpet bag to produce this beautiful first look of the Brit as the nanny with very special powers.
Thankfully for die-hard fans of the original movie – starring Julie Andrews and adapted from the P. L. Travers novel – Emily is kitted out in full Poppins get-up, including jaunty hat, peacock ruffled coat, heel-clicking shoes…and not forgetting the all-important magic carpet bag.
The film pulls from stories within the other seven books of P.L. Travers’ original children’s series. As the Banks children grew, so did their travels with Mary Poppins, who popped in and out of their lives throughout the additional novels.
In addition to Emily, the principal cast also includes Lin-Manuel Miranda as a musical lamplighter named Jack, Meryl Streep as Mary’s cousin Topsy, Colin Firth as banker William Weatherall Wilkins, Julie Walters as loyal housekeeper Ellen.
Original cast member Dick Van Dyke is also set to make a return to the sequel.
The reboot of the classic Disney musical is slated for release in 2018
We can’t wait!
