A disabled dog in Thailand has rescued a baby boy who had been buried alive by his teenage mother.

The canine, named Ping Pong, had been spotted sniffing and digging around a spot of dirt in Ban Nong Kham village, and exposed the baby’s legs, leading locals to haul him to safety, the Guardian reports.

A 15-year-old girl has confessed to birthing and burying the child, saying she was afraid of getting in trouble with her father.

The baby boy has been declared healthy, and will be raised by the girl’s family.

“The girl is now in the care of a psychologist and her parents because she is in great fear,” Lieutenant colonel Panuwat Puttakam from the Cham Phuang police said.

The dog is being praised as a hero and is lapping up all the attention he is receiving for rescuing the baby, his owner said.

“I heard a dog barking and a baby crying in a cassava plantation, so I went there to check,” owner Usa Nisaika said.

“The dog was digging up a dirt pile and the baby’s legs emerged. He’s loved by the entire village. It’s amazing he found the baby.”
