A baby name expert reveals how to choose the perfect moniker

Research shows that almost two-thirds of us believe that our names determine how successful we become in life.

Baby names expert Sherri Suzanne reveals that there is a formula you should stick to when deciding on a moniker for your baby boy or girl.

Speaking to the Daily Star Online, Sherri said contrary to popular opinion, an unusual name will not hold your child back – but there are guidelines to follow.

“Those who argue for originality point to Oprah Winfrey or Elon Musk and a host of others who’ve reached meteoric heights with less-than-traditional names,” she said.

The trick, she reveals, is to pick a name that is easy to spell and pronounce.

“I think the recipe for success starts with a name that can be said with confidence – such a name can be a time-honoured classic, a trendy Top 10 or completely unique”, Sherri explains.

“A name for success has pleasant sounds and is spelled logically to achieve correct pronunciation.

“A name for success should open doors of opportunity by making it easy for a teacher to call on a child in class or a prospective employer to call a candidate for job interview.”

For parents who like classic names, monikers such as Oliver and Emma fit the bill.

But unusual names such as Evren and Alara also work, because they are “user-friendly” and easy to say out loud, she added.
