“I'm sorry I have two kids in the house, I don't know what to do,” she tells 911.

“I'm just freaking out really bad right now... and I'm trying to get the number to my neighbour.”

That neighbour was the first to arrive - a nurse who tried to help Brenton but couldn’t save him.

After some early visa concerns, Brenton's father Michael, arrived in the US on Sunday, determined to care for his son's grieving family.

He wants to see where his son gave his life to save his family.

"I want to go to the house and have a look and all of that sort of thing.., it hasn't really sunk in yet," he told 7NEWS.

Authorities are offering a $US25,000 reward for information that helps track down those responsible.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for Mr Estorffe's widow and children.
