WATCH VIDEO: Autistic boy sobs on stage as teacher SNATCHES microphone out of his hands

This is so sad

November 26 2018

A mum is heartbroken after a teacher snatched away the microphone from her autistic son during a school play – leaving him in tears.

Angela Riddle sat down to proudly see her son, Caleb, enjoy his moment on stage for the Thanksgiving play, but she sobbed when he realised he wouldn’t be able to deliver his one line.

“She went up and she snatched that microphone from him,” Amanda revealed to Inside Edition.

“What would it have hurt to give him a few extra seconds to say ‘gobble, gobble’?” Angela lamented.“He was up there crying, saying ‘oh no!’ and my heart broke to watch that.”

The person in charge that evening later admitted that in hindsight, they should have let Caleb speak. But the school has stressed that Caleb did have other opportunities to speak during the play, even though he had no official lines.

And many teachers at the school have stood behind their colleague wishing the viewers critical of Mrs. Lindsey, the teacher,  could have seen the recording of the entire play where he did speak despite the fact he wasn't meant to.

“The program was over and the teacher had taken the microphone without malice. If we had to do it again, probably we all agree that we would have done it a little differently,” they added.

Caleb’s father Kent Squires said he is “reaching out to see if something can be done’ about the incident.

Sharing the video on Facebook Kent wrote:

This is my little boy in his Thanksgiving play.

He is the last kid and has level one high functioning autism.

He has the biggest heart and [is] always happy.

Now watch it and see what a teacher of kids does to him.

He has [come] home from school and said he gets to say ‘gobble gobble’ cause he was playing the turkey.

I am reaching out to see if something can be done.
