Cleaning your washing machine is one of the new cleaning trends sweeping Australia at the moment.

New products have recently hit the shelves - including Pine O Cleen’s Washing Machine Cleaner, currently on sale at Coles for $4.

But an Aussie mum has revealed her secret to keeping her washing machine - and all you need is a 14 cent dishwashing tablet.

Sharing her tip on the Mums Who Clean Facebook group, mum Jess reveals how an expert gave her advice on how to clean her machine after a recent repair.

Says Jess: ‘Just had the best tip from a washing machine technician after fixing my pump (had a 5c piece jamming it). He asked if I had a dishwashing tablet, he said he just throws that in the drum once a fortnight and run the tub clean cycle.

‘I had just started buying the Laundry Magic Washing Machine Cleaner Sachets, it will be much cheaper using a dish washer tablet!

Love it! And with some dishwashing tablets costing just 14 cents, that sure is a more economical clean!

The tip got the big thumbs up from other mums on the page.

‘This is a game changer,’ said one. Added another: ‘My service man told me the same thing 😄

Said a third: ‘This is FANTASTIC!’

Added one more: ‘I’m going to do this tomorrow. Thank you!’
