First grader Kaia was handcuffed and arrested after an incident at school. Her grandmother Meralyn Kirkland has spoken out over the shocking events.

Kirkland said she received a call from Lucious and Emma Nixon Elementary charter school after Kaia was arrested and taken to Juvenile Detention.

“What do you mean she was arrested?” Kirkland remembered saying during the unbelievable call.

“He said, ‘There was an incident and she kicked somebody and she is being charged’”, reported The New York Post.

No six-year-old child should be able to tell somebody that they had handcuffs on them and they were riding in the back of a police car and taken to a juvenile centre to be fingerprinted, mug shot,” Kirkland said.

“She has a medical condition that we are working on getting resolved and he says, ‘what medical condition, she has a sleep disorder, sleep apnea,’ and he says, ‘well I have sleep apnea and I don’t behave like that.”

It is alleged that Kaia kicked a teacher. The 6-year-old was just one of two children who were arrested that day, an eight-year-old was also taken into custody.

“She was charged with battery!”, the childs shocked grandmother told WFLA-TV.

An internal investigation is ongoing.
